Garden refurb, Sheffield
Woodbuilt Developments
Preparations
The client approached us looking to maximize the potential of their rear garden by adding a versatile garden room and a low-maintenance social area. They wanted a building that didn’t just look like a shed, but felt like a permanent extension of their home’s living space.
After reviewing the site and the client’s vision, we developed a plan to construct a fully insulated garden suite, complemented by an expansive natural stone patio. The goal was to create a “resort” feel right in their backyard.
The Build
This project required a blend of heavy construction and fine finishing:
The Structure: We began by laying a solid concrete base and building the main structure using high-density blocks. The roof was finished with a modern flat-roof system, featuring an anthracite fascia and integrated exterior downlights.
Exterior Cladding: To give the building its unique character, we applied a premium multi-tonal split-face stone cladding. This provides a rugged, natural texture that contrasts perfectly with the sleek anthracite door frames.
The Paving: We installed a large-format natural sandstone patio. The stone was specifically chosen for its rich, earthy wood-grain patterns, which tied in perfectly with the wooden sleepers and the company name.
Landscaping Details: We finished the perimeter with timber sleeper planters, white decorative stone borders, and high-quality artificial turf to ensure a vibrant green look year-round with zero maintenance.
Project Notes
One of the most satisfying parts of this build was the tiling work on the garden room. Aligning split-face stone around structural openings requires a steady hand and a lot of patience to ensure the corners look seamless.
The weather was our biggest hurdle during the patio phase, as the natural sandstone needs a clear window to be laid and pointed correctly. However, by sticking to our action plan, we delivered a stunning, weather-proof retreat that the client was able to furnish with a fire pit and loungers just in time for the social season.
